We are immensely proud that IFFO was honoured today by the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) as one of the 239 recipients of its first-ever Technical Recognition Ceremony, celebrating excellence in technical contributions to global food systems. Selected from over 1,000 applicants, IFFO stands among 46 organisations recognised in the Sustainable Aquatic Food Systems category: a testament to our work leading the responsible development of marine ingredients.
- Through market intelligence and technical research, IFFO supports the efficient use of raw materials in feed, a key objective of FAO’s Blue Transformation Roadmap (Target A4). IFFO has been championing the use of Life Cycle Assessment to enable more transparent, unbiased comparisons and informed ingredient choices.
- Contributing to FAO’s Target V1, fish by-products play an important role in underpinning marine ingredient production, making up an estimated 41% globally in 2023. This trend keeps increasing with the growing provision of circular materials from aquaculture. IFFO has long championed their use through research and conferences, with key papers published in 2016 and 2025.
- Promotion of long chain omega-3s are another part of IFFO’s strategic focus on improving the value retention of marine raw materials throughout the human food chain.
We extend our sincere thanks to FAO’s Qu Dongyu and Manuel Barange for championing this initiative, and to our IFFO members and dedicated team whose expertise made this recognition possible.
