The marine ingredients industry in Northwest and West Africa:
key fisheries challenges and media coverage impacts

ONLY OPEN TO MEMBERS OF IFFO

8th February, 3pm to 4pm UK time.  Please add this date to your diary.

Speakers: Jo Gascoigne, Coordinator of the Morocco and the Mauritania FIPs and Veronique Jamin, Communications and External Relations Director at IFFO.

Production of marine ingredients (both direct and through by-products) in Northwest and West Africa has had a very high growth rate over the last decade. This has triggered increased media and NGO interest in this region, especially in West Africa.

On 8th February, IFFO will offer its members a webinar on Northwest Africa to understand how the industry has been developing in the region, what resources are available and what key fisheries challenges are. FIPs (fishery improvement projects) for small pelagics were launched in Morocco in 2014 and 2019, with the 2014 FIP expected to enter MSC full assessment shortly. The Mauritanian small pelagic FIP was launched in 2017 and is making good progress. The webinar will also address the impact of media coverage related to the region.

The webinar will take place on the Zoom platform and will provide simultaneous interpretation between English and Spanish.

If you have any questions please email [email protected].
