IFFO Showcase: Marine Ingredients footprint in GFLI’s Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) databaseWednesday 21st October 2026 from 15:00 - 15:45
This event will present the needs for sustainability and life-cycle assessment (LCA) from the perspective of the feed industry and the marine ingredient industry. Both form an essential foundation to measuring and managing our broader environmental impacts and social licence, along with growing market expectations. Dicussions will focus on the imperative of responsibly managed and resilient fishery supply chains to then advocate the value of transparent, standardised methods of LCA, such as those aligned with FAO LEAP, PEFCR and GFLI rules, supported by primary rather than secondary data and why the industry stands to gain from such initiatives. Through the results from the IFFO GFLI Data-In-Project drawing on 370 datasets covering 52 meal and oil products, we will show how substantial footprint variation by species, product, facility and origin exists across our industry. Through better access to member data, consistent reporting and stepwise improvement, we will show how LCA increasingly enables fair ingredient comparisons and sustainable aquaculture decisions to be made which benefit both the feed industry and the marine ingredient industry.
