February 2023 Editorial

Being a membership and trade organisation comes with the prerequisite that discussions held within our remit remain strictly pre-competitive.

Pre-competitive platforms have flourished over the last decade as businesses have been realising how powerful coalitions of stakeholders can prove to be when they want to address in-depth issues relating to climate change, food security, the circular economy and many more.

The discipline which pre-competitive platforms imply is a real asset when it comes to finding the best way to solve a problem: it is not the case of putting the emphasis on a company, a region or a product. It is the case of looking beyond individual interests and focusing on a shared responsibility.

With this approach strongly ingrained in their modus operandi, membership organisations are well equipped to drive the responsible development of an industry.

In order to go deeper and quicker, we at IFFO have chosen to initiate an additional platform, with a core and limited group of companies, focusing on improvements to be made under a value chain leadership. This is the purpose of the Global Roundtable on Marine Ingredients which started in 2021. The joint impulse that IFFO together with SFP, the NGO, has given to the industry, is the promise that marine ingredients are keeping on developing and progressing.
